For You Telecare Family Service (FUTFS) assists individuals and families from all walks of life to overcome cultural, emotional, and psychological barriers through a wide range of counselling and educational services and programs. In collaboration with other social service organizations, we raises awareness of social issues and supports clients in the community through the progression of a healthy lifestyle and gradual integration into Canadian society.The projects we provide at FUTFS are for anyone who is willing or interested in participating. Programs & Services in Dec 2023

1. EAHA Project: Nursing Home Visit

To welcome the Christmas season, let’s make good memories together by visiting a nursing home where we can have fun listening to carols. We hope that this will be a time where we can share joy and happiness through opportunities for meetings, performances, and conversations amidst our alienated and lonely lives.

 



2. Senior Talk! Wellness Group

Through conversation, we communicate with others, get to know ourselves, and also introduce ourselves to others. We possess many things with potential power. Those of us who suffer from loneliness and helplessness can be enlivened by skillful hands, beautiful voices, artistic expressions, and body movements.

3. Youth Career Development

This program for young people aged 18-30 strengthens core skills such as career exploration, personality and aptitude testing, interview and interpersonal skills, and resume writing. This is a valuable opportunity for young people who want to acquire the tools and knowledge necessary for employment.

4. Youth Leaders Group

Youth Leaders Group is a small group activity, and a group in which leaders gather together to practice their skills as leaders through the process of planning, execution, and evaluation of how to implement youth activities and projects. Volunteer hours, certificates and reference letter will be provided.



5. English Cafe

FUTFS holds an English cafe class every Tuesday from 10:30 to 12:00 to improve volunteers' upgraded English speaking skills. Participants in this class will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face at the Young Center Plus to chat and speak English. The class is led by Instructor Heather Sheildrick.

6. Counselling Service

FUTFS offers a range of counselling services for those in distress, career, or in need of emotional support. We provide counselling services as all possible ways as possible such as Zoom, email, phone for any regions in Canada, and additionally provide in-person counselling for Toronto only such as telephone counseling, individual counseling, family counseling, outreach and more.

7. FUTFS Bazaar 2023

Donations of items are also welcomed! To volunteer on the day of the event or donate items to be sold during the bazaar, please apply through the www.futfs.org website so that our staff will contact you as soon as possible.

Children and parents can shape the future through continuous learning

I believe that children and parents can shape the future through continuous learning. Beyond formal education, people need to keep learning, and this is especially true for children who are greatly influenced by their parents' knowledge. After the pandemic, many aspects of society have rapidly changed, and parents have realized the need to acquire new information and adapt flexibly to prepare for their children's future.

Though not in-depth, from my educational experience, I have clearly observed that children learn a lot from their surrounding environment. Parents' actions and attitudes significantly influence their children's values and learning styles. Therefore, parents' ongoing learning plays a crucial role in instilling positive traits and fostering growth in their children. I consider this continuous learning as an essential tool for family-wide growth.

Parents' consistent learning contributes to better intergenerational understanding. With various generations such as Generation X, Generation MZ, and soon the Alpha generation coexisting and being mentioned, parents who continue to learn can better understand their children's world and engage in effective communication. This understanding can range from problem-solving to guiding their children in various aspects.

Lastly, creating an environment where the joy of learning and exploration is shared within the family is crucial. This can transmit not only important skills and social knowledge beyond what is learned in school but also foster the capacity to discover new opportunities and solve complex situations. It is, in my opinion, a way to impart essential capabilities for navigating an ever-changing world.
